AATF Spring Meeting in Austin, March 26, 2011

The Spring 2011 Meeting of the Central Texas AATF was held Saturday, March 26, at Huston-Tillotson University and Karibu Ethiopian Restaurant in Austin. Presenters at the morning session were:
  • Moira DiMauro-Jackson, Texas State University - Use of film for the intermediate French class
  • Christine Albert, chanteuse française d'Austin, & Jackie Thomas, Texas A&M University at Kingsville - Christine sang several songs from her concert, accompanied at the piano by Chip Dolan, and Jackie introduced exercises she has developed to accompany Christine's songs in her teaching.
  • François Lagarde, The University of Texas - Literary portrait of Rwandan francophone author Scholastique Mukasonga
  • Dominique Mwankumi, Congolese author of children's literature - presentation of his latest illustrated book
At the business meeting, Moira di Mauro-Jackson of Texas State University was elected Chapter Vice-President and Esther Boateng of Midway HS in Waco was elected Secretary, each for a two-year term. 6 hours of TEA-approved CPE credit were issued to those in attendance!   - Minutes of the Meeting -

Program Requirements: Scorers must:
  • currently reside and teach in the state of Texas (On making a personal inquiry, I learned that retirees are eligible if they have taught French within the last 3 years - Joel)
  • be currently certified to teach French language in the state of Texas
  • have at least three years of experience teaching French language in the state of Texas OR be a current instructor in the education of future French Language teachers at a higher –education institute in the state of Texas
  • have taught French language in the state of Texas within the past three years, AND
  • A scanned copy of current teaching certification is required for applicants teaching Grades 1-12. The teaching certification is not required if you are teaching at the College level.
Applications are being reviewed on a rolling basis at the present time. The next scoring session is scheduled to start in April, 2011. All training and scoring work is completed on line from a home computer.
